The predicted salary is between 15000 - 20000 £ per year.

We are looking for a reliable person with a passion for helping people. The postholder will facilitate group activities in the community, for people who are living with dementia or cognitive issues. The hours/days of work are Mondays 1pm - 4pm in Wimborne and Wednesdays 1pm - 4pm in Poole. 6 hours per week in total. The postholder must have a driver's licence and access to their own vehicle.

MAIN TASKS

  • To be responsible for running activity sessions assigned to you.
  • To ensure the smooth and effective running of those groups.
  • To be responsible for volunteers assisting with the groups.
  • To work with the Dementia assistants to provide themed sessions of activities.
  • To be responsible with an assistant for setting up of venues prior to clients attending and clearing away at the end of each session.
  • To work with the assistant to complete relevant monitoring forms and return these to the coordinator at the end of the 14 week period.
  • To report any safeguarding concerns to the safeguarding leads of Age UK Bournemouth, Poole, and East Dorset.
  • To contact clients who don’t attend sessions.
  • To be responsible for the health and safety of clients attending.
  • To report any health and safety concerns to the service manager.
  • To complete relevant paperwork if a client injures themselves whilst attending the groups (accident book etc).
  • Maintain a weekly client register and return this to the coordinator at the end of each month.
  • To assist with refreshments.
  • To ensure that all venues are left tidy and locked at the end of each session if appropriate.
  • Manage the physical resources and equipment required for your sessions.
  • Liaise with the service manager regarding training needs including those of the volunteers.
  • Attend meetings where necessary.
  • Ensure service delivery is in line with relevant quality standards.

PERSON SPECIFICATION - ESSENTIAL

  • Previous experience of working with older people.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills.
  • Good computer skills/email/internet etc.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Ability to show empathy with older people and to adapt communication to the needs of the client.
  • Ability to keep clear and concise written records.
  • Flexibility.
  • Good time keeping.
  • Reliable & honest.
  • Ability to keep confidentiality.
  • Willingness to undertake training/train as a specialist advisor.
  • Car Driver.
  • Use of a computer.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience of working with older people with dementia.
  • Previous experience of facilitating group activity.
  • Previous experience of managing volunteers.
  • Has an understanding of the needs of older people.
