Age Connects Torfaen is an independent registered charity with a vision to create a society where older people are respected and enabled to meet their aspirations. We are committed to tackling loneliness, isolation and poverty throughout Torfaen and the neighbouring boroughs.
After 12 years of supporting our Charity, our Treasurer is retiring. Therefore, we are looking for a new trustee with some experience of financial management to join our Board of Trustees.
The Role
This is a voluntary position that would suit an individual with a few hours spare each month. The day-to-day financial work is undertaken by an employed finance officer who, together with the CEO, is responsible for preparing the budgets, quarterly actuals, and year-end accounts. The role of the Treasurer is to review these and report back to the Board of Trustees.
Age Connects Torfaen are an evolving charity and external accountants review all our financial information from the year, audit the accounts, and confirm that it shows a true and fair view of the Charity’s finances.
If you have:
- Experience in an accounts background, with an understanding of financial accounts procedures, maybe running your own business, or working in a leadership role in public, private or third sector organisation or a bank.
As a Dementia Buddy, you will support individuals living with dementia, providing companionship and understanding to help improve their quality of life.
Role Responsibilities
- Support people living with dementia to access their local community.
- Work on a one-to-one basis.
- Activities to include: Sports, accessing beauty therapies, shopping trips, theatre and cinema, garden centre.
- Engage, support and encourage Buddy in conversation and participation.
- A commitment of once a month is required for this role.
The Volunteer Receptionist provides a warm, professional, and welcoming first point of contact for clients and visitors. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of front desk services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet Visitors: Welcome and assist visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude.
- Answer Telephone Calls: Handle incoming phone calls, directing them to the correct department or person.
- Manage Enquiries: Respond to general enquiries in person, over the phone, or via email.
- Clerical Duties: Perform light administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, sorting mail, maintaining visitor logs, and data entry.
The Lunch Club Volunteer plays a vital role in providing a welcoming and enjoyable environment for members of the local community during lunchtime gatherings.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support a lunch club at community venues, providing a social gathering where individuals can enjoy lunch with others.
- Preparing room to follow lunch clubs use at the venue.
- Taking lunch orders and recording from a set menu.
- Assisting to plate/serve meals and refreshments (teas/coffees).
- Assist in ensuring all areas are cleaned to meet Food Hygiene Regulations.
- Commit to two hours per week.
- Undertake appropriate training to the role.
This role involves supporting people living with dementia within our Merry Moments groups.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up tea and coffee station before clients come in.
- Make Tea and Coffee for clients.
- Assist client with an arm when going into the hall for lunch.
- Clear away dirty dishes after meal time.
- Assist as and when with activities.
- Undertake appropriate training to the role.
- Commitment is three and half hours weekly.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
As a volunteer community driver, you will provide a transport service throughout Torfaen and the surrounding area. Your typical duties would include planning the best route and driving the vehicle safely, helping passengers get on and off the vehicle, and performing basic vehicle checks.

- Excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic regulations.
- Good communication and ‘people’ skills.
- An awareness of disability needs.
- Good organisational skills.
- Map reading and route planning skills.
- Patience and empathy with passengers.
- A reasonable level of fitness.
- The ability to work well as part of a team.
