The Aga Khan Centre is located on the Kings Cross Estate in the heart of Londons knowledge quarter, providing spaces for students, scholars, and staff to share ideas and work together, alongside flexible teaching spaces and quiet research areas. We are now looking for a Facilities and Maintenance Operative to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 35 hours per week. This role will typically work a 12:00pm to 8:00pm shift; however, some flexibility is required to cover alternative hours as needed.

The Role

As a Facilities and Maintenance Operative, you will oversee the security, functionality, and general upkeep of the Aga Khan Centre and its surrounding areas. Specifically, you will carry out scheduled maintenance and compliance checks, ensuring that all aspects of the facility adhere to the highest standards. Working alongside contractors and internal teams, you will help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the building, maintaining a clean, safe and well-managed environment while adhering to health and safety requirements.

Additionally, you will:

  • Carry out basic electrical, plumbing and furniture repairs
  • Inspect and maintain ladders and working-at-height equipment
  • Carry out weekly fire alarm tests and assist with evacuation procedures
  • Monitor and replenish stock levels of essential consumables and equipment
  • Conduct regular building inspections
  • Record and submit meter readings for the Aga Khan Centre and tenants
  • Undertake painting, decorating, flooring, ceiling, and wall repairs

About You

To be considered as a Facilities and Maintenance Operative, you will need:

  • Experience in a similar facilities, maintenance or building services role
  • Experience working with mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A proactive and flexible approach
  • Basic IT skills
  • The ability to follow procedures, regulations and technical guidance
