A specialist scientific and environmental technology business seeks a Commercial Contracts Specialist to lead commercial and legal contractual engagement across the group's operations.

Salary – c.£50000 + benefits (Neg.DOE)

Type - Permanent

Location - Mainly UK remote WFH, with occasional (quarterly) visits to Devon HQ.

The Commercial Contracts Specialist will be the sole lead for all commercial and legal contracts related activity across group operations (UK and international customer sales/projects). Reporting to the CFO, you will provide commercial and contractual support across the business, ensuring that contract T&C's are commercially robust, legally compliant and aligned with company objectives. You will work closely with Operations, Business Development, Project Management, Engineering and Finance teams throughout the full contract lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, draft and negotiate customer and supplier contracts.
  • Identify and manage commercial and contractual risks.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with customers and suppliers.
  • Ensure contractual compliance throughout project delivery.
  • Maintain standard contract templates and commercial documentation.
  • Assist with dispute resolution and contract change management.
  • Support continuous improvement of commercial processes and governance.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues.

About You:

You’ll be an organised, commercially aware professional with excellent B2B legal contracts knowledge, negotiation, drafting and communication skills. You should have the ability to work independently whilst collaborating and building working relationships across multiple technical and commercial departments.

Key Experience Required:

  • A degree-level and/or professional qualification in Law, Business or Contracts related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a dedicated Commercial Contract Specialist / Commercial Contracts Manager position.
  • The ability to lead all CCM in a sole/lead capacity for an entire SME business.
  • Excellent understanding of commercial/legal contract terms and conditions (T&C's).
  • Ability to identify and mitigate commercial risk, while maximising commercial opportunity.
  • Experience supporting bids and tenders.
  • Experience within engineering, manufacturing, technology, marine, scientific/research technology/services, defence or a similar technical industry is desirable.
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident stakeholder management skills across engineering, scientific and commercial/corporate audiences.

Additional/Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of UK public sector procurement.
  • Experience of NEC, JCT, FIDIC or similar contract forms.
  • Understanding of export processes and/or international commercial contracts.
