Start your engineering career on the shop floor of a UK precision manufacturer working with PTFE, PEEK, PCTFE and other high-performance polymers for aerospace, defence, motorsport, oil and gas and industrial markets. This is a hands-on inspection role, not a desk-based quality systems job. You'll be measuring real parts, working from real drawings, and learning metrology from people who do it every day.
What you'll be doing:
- Carrying out dimensional inspection of CNC-machined components using micrometers, verniers, height gauges, bore gauges and surface finish testers.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, including GD&T, tolerances and surface finish requirements.
- Recording inspection results, completing reports and supporting the Quality Manager with NCR processing, root-cause investigation and corrective actions.
- Involved in first-off, in-process and final inspection across the production floor, maintaining calibration records, contributing to continuous improvement, and supporting internal and external audits.
What we're looking for:
- A 2:2 or above degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
- The ability to read engineering drawings is essential.
- Methodical thinkers with strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and a genuine interest in precision manufacturing.
Full training will be provided on our materials, processes and inspection methods.
Useful but not essential:
- Any exposure to CMM operation, ISO 9001 quality systems, or a CNC machining environment.
Why AFT Fluorotec:
We manufacture precision-machined fluoropolymer components for customers who cannot afford failure. That standard runs through everything we do, including how we develop graduates. You'll learn metrology properly, work alongside experienced engineers, and build a foundation in quality assurance that transfers anywhere in advanced manufacturing.
