Provide specialist safeguarding expertise to ensure Afrikindness maintains the highest standards of child and adult protection. Support policy development, training, and case consultation to keep our community safe.

What are we looking for?

  • Professional qualification or substantial experience in safeguarding (social work, education, charity sector, health, police, etc.)
  • Knowledge of UK safeguarding legislation, guidance, and frameworks (e.g. Working Together, Keeping Children Safe in Education, Care Act)
  • Experience delivering safeguarding training or policy development
  • Calm, professional, and capable of handling sensitive information
  • Commitment to child‑centred, trauma‑informed, and rights‑based approaches
  • Excellent judgment and ability to balance support with accountability

What will you be doing?

  • Review and advise on safeguarding policies, procedures, and risk assessments
  • Provide guidance on safeguarding concerns, disclosures, or complex cases (in advisory capacity, not case management)
  • Deliver safeguarding training to staff, volunteers, and trustees
  • Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) with policy updates, audits, and continuous improvement
  • Advise on safer recruitment practices and volunteer vetting procedures
  • Help develop resources and guidance for volunteers on recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns
  • Contribute to organisational safeguarding culture and continuous learning
  • Stay up to date with legislation, guidance, and best practice
