African Rainbow Family (ARF) is a grassroots charity dedicated to campaigning for racial justice and human rights for LGBTIQ+ refugees and asylum seekers of African heritage and the global majority. Established in 2014, ARF provides support to LGBTIQ refugees and asylum seekers, campaigns for global LGBTIQ equality, and stands against hate crimes. Led by and for individuals directly impacted by these issues, ARF works to remove isolation and support emotional wellbeing through counseling and empowerment activities. With centres in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, London, Cardiff and Swansea, ARF relies heavily on volunteers to deliver its life-saving work and continues to strive for a world without prejudice.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role located in our Manchester centre for a Refugee Support Worker. The Refugee Support Worker will assist LGBTIQ+ refugees and people seeking asylum by providing essential support services, safeguarding their welfare, and offering technical support. Daily tasks include engaging with individuals to assess their needs, providing information and guidance, ensuring their safety, and supporting their emotional wellbeing through activities and counseling. The role also involves liaising with other organizations and advocating for the rights and needs of the individuals served.

- Experience in providing support services to refugees and people seeking asylum
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in safeguarding practices
- Technical support skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
- Empathy and understanding of LGBTIQ+ issues and challenges
- Experience in advocacy and networking with social and political organizations
- Bachelor\'s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is beneficial
