Role Purpose
The Head of Delegated Authorities Management is a senior leadership role responsible for the day-to-day oversight and control of inwards and outwards delegated authority arrangements across Lloyd’s and company markets, ensuring effective operational governance, regulatory compliance, process efficiency, and consistent execution in line with ASR’s strategic objectives.
Role Responsibilities
- Governance, Compliance & Oversight
- Regulatory Alignment: Maintain a deep understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., Lloyd's, PRA, FCA, Solvency II) across the entire DA chain, including Brokers, MGAs, and Reinsurers.
- Lifecycle Governance: Oversee all DA agreements throughout their lifecycle, ensuring robust governance checks and strict adherence to company policies and contract certainty.
- Due Diligence: Perform pre and post bind reviews for binders, lineslips and consortia to ensure procedural and regulatory compliance. Drive the onboarding, due diligence, and auditing processes for third parties to ensure effective risk management.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for regulators on DA queries and maintain close working relationships with internal Underwriting, Risk, and Compliance teams. Support outsourced resources working on delegated activities and other supporting administrative tasks.
- Data Processing: Ensure the timely receipt and processing of all periodic bordereaux (Risk, Premium, and Claims) under outwards DA agreements as well as provision of timely and accurate bordereaux under inwards Delegation.
- Standardisation: Drive the use of ASR-specific bordereau formats to ensure data is high-quality and utilised efficiently.
- Quality Control: Identify, challenge, and correct inaccurate policy records within the Policy Administration System (PAS).
- Reporting: Provide the business with visibility on bordereaux status (e.g., received, queried, outstanding) and produce technical analysis reports for management insight.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor the DA team, ensuring all placements and insurance documentation are stored accurately on internal systems.
- Distribution model: Work closely with the Strategy team and manage the preparation and issuance of internal and external DA Statements to Capacity Providers, within strict deadlines.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement efficiencies in bordereaux management and the wider oversight framework.
- Wider Operations: Manage intra-group reinsurance administration and support the Operations team with project-based initiatives and day-to-day BAU duties.
General Requirements
Ensure ASR and client interests are protected through diligent handling of all Binding Authority matters. Comply with all company policies and perform any other reasonable tasks as directed by management.
Skills & Experience
- Essential
- Chartered Insurance Institute qualification(s)
- Solid London Market Delegated Authority experience – with full technical knowledge of the DA products written & how to administer them
- Strong understanding and knowledge of FCA rules (inc. forthcoming changes) relating to commercial customers and general insurance / legal principles
- Strong interpersonal skills & team ethic to work with colleagues, clients, TPAs and external Capacity Providers & their brokers
- High level of flexibility & a willingness to take ownership
- Strong skills in MS Windows applications – particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Specialty insurance lines within Africa/developing regions, ideally including current market conditions
- French language skills
