Role Purpose: Support the execution of the business plan by accepting the risks and processing them (including carrying out all the relevant compliance checks, gathering all the data) in order to create a short pack for the Underwriters’ review. Supporting the Underwriting process, focusing on developing underwriting skills and technical knowledge whilst assisting Underwriters to manage existing accounts and future growth successfully.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and report figures and statistics to the Underwriters (London, Mauritius and Dubai) on an ad hoc basis.
  • Prepare compliance terms for underwriter’s authorisation.
  • Ensure accurate entry of risks onto the underwriting system and pricing models.
  • Ensure accurate entry of policy aggregate information onto the relevant software and spreadsheets, as required.
  • Copy/scan slips and other risk information as requested.
  • Ensure the syndicate records and files are maintained efficiently.
  • Monitor aggregate exposures of live risks on a daily basis and report to Underwriters.
  • Liaise with brokers and service providers as appropriate and directed by senior team members.
  • Assist underwriters in delivery of their accountabilities and support with the efficient operation of the business, as directed by underwriters.
  • Maintain all underwriting records accurately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate awareness of, and adherence to:
  • Data governance framework; escalating material issues in a timely manner.
  • Risks in your area; working within the parameters of the framework, including recording of losses or near misses.
  • The document management policy, whether as document author, reviewer, or user.
  • Operate within agreed authority levels, as determined by the Board.
  • Any other reasonable tasks as directed by your manager(s).
  • Skills & Experience:

    Essential:

    • Understanding of business objectives and the market in which we operate.
    • A basic understanding of insurance principles, key disciplines of underwriting and claims, types of insurance products, and underwriting processes.
    • Ability to plan and organise own role effectively.
    • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Effective communication and rapport building skills.
    • Intellectual curiosity.

    Desirable:

    • Good understanding of risk management and governance framework and how own role fits into it.
    • Ability to be assertive when appropriate.
