Our client is a global company with several sites in the UK and a European based head office. A recent review of the finance department has prompted the requirement to strengthen the team by appointing an Internal Controls and Compliance Manager in response to new legislation. The primary objective of the role is to support the Finance Director with the SAO (Senior Accounting Officer) regime by establishing and maintaining appropriate tax accounting arrangements, ensuring the company has adequate systems in place to report correct tax liabilities.
This is an important new role within the finance team forming a key part of a business's tax governance and risk management framework. The opportunity would appeal to a candidate who is a qualified CTA / ATT tax accountant or an ACA / ACCA with an audit / internal audit background and good tax experience but not necessarily an expert as the role will involve working closely with their external tax advisers who can provide guidance.
A key part of the role will include:
- Documenting internal tax processes suggesting improvements where necessary
- Ensuring consistency of controls across UK sites in the North West
- Internal Audit of tax processes to ensure compliance with SAO regulations
- Ensuring tax policies and strategies are implemented correctly
- Ensuring tax allowances are allocated to the best advantage across the UK companies
- Managing the filing of tax declarations / returns
- Identifying financial risks or potential issues and developing solutions
- Co-ordinating and managing tax audits and enquiries from HMRC
The role will have a wide range of interaction with colleagues in the UK and Europe, you will become the go-to person for tax technical support, problem solving and suggesting pro-active strategies for tax mitigation and optimization of net income. There will be plenty of scope to get involved with projects around sustainability and funding support via grants and subsidies, it is also envisaged that the right person will become a vital part of the senior finance team.
The successful candidate will be joining a small, high calibre finance department and will benefit from a hybrid working arrangement (2-3 days a week in Greater Manchester / Lancashire office) and a variety of attractive corporate level benefits.
