With over $2bn in revenue and 12,000 employees worldwide, we are expanding our data centre capability and are looking for a technically credible, customer-facing Data Center Solutions Engineer to join the team. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, product development and customer strategy.

The position focuses on building deep technical partnerships with key customers, influencing early-stage design decisions, and shaping future-ready data centre solutions.

The Role
  • Act as the technical lead for optical connectivity within assigned key accounts, ensuring AFL is positioned as the primary technology partner.
  • Drive engagement at both technical and strategic levels, influencing customer roadmaps and aligning solutions to evolving data centre architectures.
  • Translate complex customer requirements into actionable engineering and product development outputs, while maintaining strong, trusted relationships with technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
  • Establish AFL as a primary technical partner within strategic customer accounts.
  • Influence customer technology decisions early in the design and planning cycle.
  • Develop and maintain customer-specific technology and business strategies.
  • Build and manage detailed data centre architecture knowledge, including technical drawings.
  • Identify customer pain points and define tailored solution pathways.
  • Lead technical discussions, testing, demonstrations and solution implementation.
  • Coordinate and deliver technical presentations and stakeholder updates.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering and Product teams to deliver customer-driven solutions.
  • Convert customer requirements into structured product and engineering actions.
  • Support new product development and innovation pipelines.
  • Maintain oversight of technical stakeholders and organisational mapping within accounts.
  • Represent AFL at industry events, conferences and standards forums.
  • Contribute to thought leadership through technical papers and publications.
Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven experience in large-scale data centre environments (5+ years).
  • Strong knowledge of fibre optic connectivity and data centre infrastructure.
  • Experience with both active and passive networking technologies.
  • Ability to produce technical drawings (Visio or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems such as Oracle, GP or Salesforce.
