As a Software Lead Engineer within the Powertrain domain, you will lead the planning, development, and delivery of propulsion software for Powertrain and Transmission Control Modules. This role supports high-performance internal combustion engine (ICE) and electrified vehicle programs.
You will collaborate closely with product owners, subject matter experts, delivery engineers, certification teams, internal software teams, and external suppliers to define and execute roadmaps that deliver production-ready software and customer value.
Key Responsibilities- Lead software development activities from concept through to final sign-off
- Define software requirements in line with recognized industry standards
- Manage requirements lifecycle including classification, cascading, and traceability
- Oversee test case development and completion to meet delivery milestones
- Develop and execute integrated delivery plans with internal software teams and network functions
- Coordinate with external suppliers to ensure delivery aligns with stakeholder requirements
- Collaborate with Propulsion Group Software Manager on software cost, timing, and RFQ preparation
- Support supplier negotiations through technical and commercial inputs
- Conduct regular progress reviews with suppliers to track delivery and resolve blockers
- Work with release teams to deliver software increments to manufacturing
- Partner with certification teams to support documentation and approval processes
- Customer-focused mindset with strong communication skills
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and actionable manner
- Confidence to challenge existing approaches constructively
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-demand environments
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in propulsion/powertrain software development and calibration delivery
- Proven experience in cross-functional coordination and team leadership
- Strong project management experience in complex engineering programs
- Experience working with diverse, cross-functional teams and external suppliers
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle, validation, and release processes
- Relevant engineering degree or equivalent practical experience preferred
