We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to take ownership of fuel system components from design through to production. You’ll lead engineering activities, manage suppliers, and ensure components meet performance, safety, quality, cost, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering
- Lead the design and development of fuel system components (tanks, pumps, injectors, lines, etc.).
- Create and approve CAD models and engineering drawings.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for design issues.
- Validate designs using CAE, prototypes, and physical testing.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g. EPA, CARB).
- Drive cost, weight, and performance improvements.
- Support design reviews and continuous improvement activities.
- Release & Programme Delivery
- Manage BOMs and part releases using PLM tools (e.g. 3Dx, Teamcenter).
- Coordinate with manufacturing, purchasing, and programme teams to meet timing and quality targets.
- Track milestones, budgets, and delivery plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation for design and release changes.
- Supplier Management
- Work closely with suppliers to deliver components to specification, cost, and timing.
- Monitor supplier performance and lead corrective actions when required.
- Support sourcing decisions through technical and risk assessments.
- Ensure supplier readiness for launch and production.
- Problem Solving & Quality
- Lead complex issue resolution using structured methods (8D, FMEA, FMA).
- Implement permanent solutions to prevent repeat issues.
- Support warranty, containment, and quality improvement activities.
- Systems & Engineering Standards
- Apply systems engineering principles across design, integration, and validation.
- Manage requirements, testing, configuration, and verification activities.
- Develop and maintain fuel system design rules and standards.
- Cost & Planning
- Support commodity planning, APQP, and build readiness activities.
- Identify cost risks and opportunities using financial and engineering data.
- Track KPIs related to cost, quality, and delivery.
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or related Engineering discipline.
- Strong experience in automotive fuel systems and related components.
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and validation methods.
- Experience with FEA, DFMEA, and design validation tools.
- Familiarity with PLM systems (3Dx, Teamcenter, TRM).
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence (for onsite roles).
