We are seeking an experienced Functional Safety Software Engineer to support the design, implementation, and verification of functional safety software in accordance with ISO 26262. The role focuses on functional safety system design, software validation, and compliance activities, with a strong emphasis on Propulsion Torque Monitoring Systems (PTMS) within an Agile development environment. The successful candidate will work closely with cross‑functional stakeholders to ensure safety requirements are correctly defined, implemented, verified, and documented throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Functional Safety & ISO 26262 Compliance
    • Support the review, update, and maintenance of ISO 26262 functional safety system design artifacts.
    • Ensure compliance with internal processes and ISO 26262 requirements.
    • Perform hazard analysis, risk assessment, and safety analyses (e.g. FMEA, FTA).
    • Support achievement of required Automotive Safety Integrity Levels (ASIL).
  • Software Safety & Validation
    • Capture, review, and manage functional safety requirements within the Technical Requirements Management (TRM) system.
    • Support the definition and implementation of functional updates for new software requirements.
    • Conduct independent reviews of software solutions and Technical Software Requirements (TSWRS) as required.
    • Develop, execute, and deliver software validation test cases and test reports.
    • Confirm correct implementation of software changes through structured validation activities.
    • Prepare and manage test data and INCA measurement files to support validation evidence.
    • Support functional safety activities related to the Propulsion Torque Monitoring System, ensuring torque output monitoring and validation.
    • Address hazards related to torque anomalies to ensure system safety.
  • Requirements Management & Traceability
    • Generate, analyse, and cascade safety requirements at both system and software levels.
    • Establish and maintain requirements traceability matrices across the development lifecycle.
  • Risk & Safety Case Management
    • Capture and present concurrence for potential residual risks.
    • Support entries into the Propulsion Residual Risk Register with proposed resolutions.
    • Review and concur with supplier safety cases.
  • Agile & Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Work within an Agile Scrum framework, participating in sprint activities and collaborating closely with the Product Owner.
    • Support technical and management reviews as required.
    • Update internal metrics and tools (e.g. AIMS, DOTS, RMDV).
  • Stakeholder & Process Management
    • Act as a proactive problem solver and effective communicator.
    • Manage stakeholder expectations and prioritise work effectively.
    • Identify and implement process improvements.
    • Protect the team from external interference to ensure delivery focus.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong experience with ISO 26262 functional safety for automotive software systems.
  • Experience producing and reviewing functional safety work products (Item Definition, HARA, FSC, TSC, etc.).
  • Hands‑on experience with software validation testing, test case development, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of PTMS or propulsion / powertrain systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience with requirements management and traceability.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Proficiency in JIRA for backlog and work item management.
