The International Accelerator Engineering team is growing, and we're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead it! We're a full-stack team located entirely in Europe within the same time zone, but culturally rooted in Silicon Valley. We directly improve the financial lives of over 20 million people shaping how Affirm builds Direct-to-Consumer products for Canada, the UK, and future international markets. We build and own various products used by our consumers, like the Affirm App and other Direct to Consumer products across international markets. We are here to make sure we reach and provide useful tools to our users so they can experience honest financial products at their fullest. Our work is agile and fast-paced, shipping new code to production for millions to use across geographies and rigorously measuring the impact it has on them.

This role rewards curiosity, ownership, ability to zoom in and out, switch contexts often, also in an open contribution model, and a builder's mindset. You'll be responsible for defining the path for reaching our customers worldwide as well as constantly iterating on growing the team and its members.

What you’ll do

  • We are looking for a collaborative, accountable engineering leader to grow and scale the team delivering Affirm’s direct-to-consumer products across international markets.
  • You will lead and grow a full-stack, Europe-based engineering team building the Affirm App and Direct-to-Consumer products for Canada, the UK, and future markets — owning the full software lifecycle from strategy to production.
  • You will set a clear technical roadmap, translating international growth objectives into executable engineering plans and maintaining clarity on team priorities in a fast-paced, multi-geography environment.
  • You will hire, develop, and retain engineers at all levels; create meaningful career growth paths and hold a high bar for technical craft, reliability, and impact at scale.
  • You will drive cross-functional alignment with product, design, data science, and business partners across time zones, ensuring the team ships with speed and quality.
  • You will champion engineering excellence — establishing standards for system reliability, performance, and scalability on products serving millions of consumers globally.
  • You will foster a culture of ownership and curiosity, where a builder’s mindset, AI-assisted productivity, and rigorous measurement of impact are how the team operates every day.

What we look for

  • You have 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years leading and growing engineering teams in a product-focused environment.
  • You have a demonstrated track record of shipping and scaling consumer-facing products — ideally in a direct-to-consumer or fintech context.
  • You are experienced building high-performing distributed teams, with strong instincts for developing engineers and creating clarity in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
  • You are a strong cross-functional partner, able to influence and align peers and stakeholders across product, design, and business functions.
  • You have experience with international or multi-market product development, with an appreciation for the complexity of operating across geographies and regulatory environments.
  • You hold a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • You communicate with clarity and confidence in English (written and verbal).

How to prepare for a job interview at Affirm

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Affirm uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
