We are recruiting for a resilient and compassionate Behaviour & Wellbeing Mentor to join a specialist education provision in Weston-super-Mare. This setting supports young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced challenges in mainstream education. The school provides a structured, nurturing and therapeutic environment focused on helping students re-engage with learning, regulate their emotions, and achieve positive outcomes. This is a dynamic, outreach-focused role, where you will work both on-site and out in the community. You will play a key part in supporting students through mentoring, intervention work, and practical support to help them succeed both in education and in everyday life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Support & Mentoring
    • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring to students with behavioural and emotional needs
    • Build strong, trusting relationships to support engagement, wellbeing and personal development
    • Act as a positive role model, promoting confidence, resilience and independence
    • Support students in accessing education both in and outside of the classroom
  • Behaviour & Wellbeing Support
    • Support the implementation of individual behaviour and wellbeing plans
    • Use calm and consistent strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour
    • Deliver targeted interventions to develop emotional regulation, coping strategies and social skills
    • Monitor and report on student progress and wellbeing
  • Outreach & Community-Based Work
    • Deliver outreach support in the local community, alternative provisions or mainstream settings
    • Travel regularly to provide off-site mentoring and intervention sessions
    • Support students with transitions, reintegration, and maintaining placements
    • Accompany students on off-site activities, trips and enrichment opportunities
    • Work closely with families, schools and external agencies to provide holistic support

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
  • Is calm, patient and confident when managing complex or high-pressure situations
  • Can build strong, professional relationships quickly
  • Is proactive, adaptable and able to work independently
  • Is passionate about supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes

A full UK driving licence is essential. This role involves regular outreach work and travel between different sites and community settings.
