We are looking for a proactive and resilient Outreach Student Engagement Coach to work with young people supported by a specialist SEMH provision in Taunton. This is not a desk based or classroom bound role. You will be out in the community, building relationships and providing hands on support to students who struggle with engagement, behaviour and emotional wellbeing. Many of the young people you will work with have experienced significant barriers to mainstream education. The setting provides a structured, supportive and therapeutic approach designed to help students re-engage with learning, build confidence and develop the skills they need for long term success. You will work across a range of environments including alternative provisions, community locations and outreach settings, making this a varied and active role where no two days are the same.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Provide one to one mentoring sessions in community, alternative or off site settings
  • Travel regularly to meet students and deliver consistent, tailored support
  • Support young people through transitions, reintegration and periods of disengagement
  • Accompany students to activities, appointments or enrichment opportunities
  • Help students build confidence in real life environments beyond the classroom
  • Work closely with families and external professionals to ensure joined up support

Building Engagement and Trust

  • Act as a consistent and trusted adult for young people
  • Build strong relationships that support behaviour change and emotional development
  • Motivate students to improve attendance, routine and engagement

Behaviour and Wellbeing Support

  • Support students to manage emotions using calm and structured approaches
  • Deliver targeted interventions focused on wellbeing, resilience and life skills
  • Deescalate challenging situations in a safe and confident way
  • Monitor progress and contribute to ongoing support plans

About You

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
  • Is confident managing complex or high pressure situations independently
  • Builds strong relationships quickly while maintaining boundaries
  • Is flexible, proactive and comfortable working in a community based role
  • Has a genuine passion for helping young people get back on track

Why This Role

  • Work in a flexible and active role outside of a traditional classroom
  • Make a real impact on young people who need support the most
  • Be part of a supportive and experienced team
  • Gain valuable experience in outreach, mentoring and behaviour support
  • Access ongoing training and development

If you are looking for a hands on role where you can build real relationships, work in the community and genuinely change outcomes for young people, we would love to hear from you.
