We are looking for a Smart Metering Field Investigator to support our Smart Metering Programme across the central region. This is a field-based technical role ensuring smart meters are correctly installed, connected, and delivering accurate data and customer benefits. You will investigate and resolve meters that fail to communicate, working across multiple systems, analysing data, visiting sites and engaging with suppliers and network providers to restore performance. You will take ownership of issues end-to-end, tracking progress and outcomes to ensure effective resolution. This is a mobile role covering the central region (including Harlow, Stansted Airport and surrounding areas), requiring regular travel and independent workload management, with occasional attendance at our Hatfield office.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor smart meter performance and identify connectivity issues
  • Investigate non-communicating meters using multiple operational systems
  • Diagnose issues such as installation quality, signal strength, or network faults
  • Carry out site visits and field-based inspections
  • Replace, repair, re-pair or reconfigure meters where required
  • Engage with suppliers and network providers to resolve issues
  • Track, monitor, and close out end-to-end resolution of faults
  • Support development of internal processes and performance tracking
  • Maintain accurate records, evidence, and technical data

Essential requirements

  • Field-based operational/technical experience (utilities, metering, telecoms or similar)
  • Experience using operational systems (MDMS and/or work management systems)
  • Full clean UK driving licence (ability to drive a commercial vehicle)
  • Willingness to travel across the central region
  • NRSWA qualification (Operative or Supervisor) and Streetworks SLG
