Overview
Our client is seeking a skilled Field Engineer to support the installation, integration, and maintenance of secure communications systems within defence environments. The role involves hands-on technical work at customer sites, ensuring mission-critical secure communications equipment performs reliably in the field. This position suits an engineering professional with a strong background in tactical communications, RF systems, encryption, and networked defence equipment who enjoys working in customer-facing, high-reliability environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, integrate, and commission secure voice, data, and radio communication systems onboard naval, land, or joint platforms.
- Conduct field testing, diagnostics, and fault resolution of hardware and software components.
- Provide technical support and user training to military or government end-users.
- Execute site surveys, configuration management, and field upgrades according to engineering change procedures.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, project managers, and OEM partners to ensure successful deployments.
- Maintain detailed documentation, including technical reports, test results, and configuration records.
- Assist in pre-deployment readiness testing and provide post-delivery technical analysis or recommendations.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or technical qualification in Electronics, Communications, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Experience supporting secure communications systems, such as COMSEC, HF/VHF/UHF, or IP-based encrypted networks.
- Competence in fault-finding, installation, and field modifications to hardware and network systems.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with defence customers and field personnel.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in naval or land systems integration projects.
- Knowledge of EW, SIGINT, or secure networking technologies.
- Understanding of RF propagation, antenna systems, or platform integration constraints.
- Familiarity with Microsoft and Linux-based secure configurations.
- Willingness to travel internationally for field deployments and trials.
