As a Sports Mentor in Weston-super-Mare, you will work directly with young people with SEMH and SEN, supporting them in school and outreach settings. Sport is used as a tool to engage and build relationships alongside academic and emotional support.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring, building trust, routine, and engagement.
- Engage young people through sport, music, art, or personal strengths to support learning.
- Assist students in developing emotional regulation, coping strategies, confidence and resilience using trauma-informed approaches and structured behaviour support techniques.
- Act as a consistent, safe role model and trusted adult, believing in them when others have not.
- Collaborate with SENCOs, teachers, pastoral teams, and families.
- Travel across Somerset; hold a full UK driving licence and be willing to obtain business insurance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in youth work, sports coaching or fitness, mental health support, social care, education or SEN support.
- Alternately, strong empathy, relationship building skills and a commitment to making a difference.
