Quality and Team Manager - Nursing

Quality and Team Manager - Nursing

Full-Time On-site
Affinity Care

Can you support a nursing team to perform at its best and turn quality checks into practical improvements? At Affinity Care, you'll combine people management with quality assurance across eight GP practice sites, helping staff deliver consistent, high quality patient care. Reporting to our Operations Manager, you'll bring together staff management, audit and compliance, helping teams work effectively and ensuring that improvements are followed through. This is a nonclinical management role, and nursing registration is not required. Clinical leadership and decisions about nursing practice remain with the Lead Nurse and clinical partners. Premises management and budget management sit with other managers and are outside this role's remit.

About the role

You'll work closely with the Operations Manager, Lead Nurse, Planned Care Manager, Patient Services Managers and HR. You'll oversee a workforce of around 40 registered nurses, nursing associates and healthcare assistants, with both direct and indirect staff management responsibilities. Your work will help staff understand what is expected, keep training and workforce records current, and turn audit findings into practical improvements.

Your responsibilities

  • Coordinate site assessments against CQC requirements, maintaining supporting evidence and clear action plans.
  • Run an audit programme covering infection prevention and control, vaccine storage and cold chain, cleanliness, clinical processes and emergency equipment.
  • Track audit findings and agreed actions through to completion, checking that improvements have been implemented.
  • Review themes from incidents, complaints and patient feedback, working with clinical colleagues to turn learning into action.
  • Maintain quality risk records, policies and procedures, obtaining appropriate clinical input and approval.
  • Produce clear reports for the Quality and Safety Group.

Nursing workforce management

  • Manage induction, probation, objectives, appraisals and staff development.
  • Handle absence, conduct and capability matters with HR support and input from the Lead Nurse where clinical issues are involved.
  • Coordinate nursing capacity, skill mix, rotas and cover across the eight sites.
  • Maintain oversight of registration, revalidation, mandatory training and competency records, working with clinical colleagues where assessment is required.
  • Support nursing recruitment alongside HR and clinical colleagues.
  • Encourage a supportive team culture where staff can raise concerns and contribute ideas for improvement.

You'll need:

  • Experience managing teams across more than one site, including appraisals, absence management and completing performance or capability processes.
  • Experience coordinating an audit or assurance programme, including recording findings, completing actions and reporting outcomes.
  • An understanding of CQC's five key questions and the evidence needed to demonstrate quality in general practice.
  • Confidence working alongside clinicians and recognising when clinical expertise is required.
  • Strong organisational skills, clear report writing and confidence using Excel and data.
  • A degree or equivalent management experience, with a willingness to undertake relevant training.

Experience in general practice or wider primary care is desirable. We also welcome relevant experience from other health or care providers where you can demonstrate both people management and quality assurance responsibilities. A management qualification, quality improvement training, CQC assessment experience or familiarity with SystmOne, Practice Index or audit software would be advantageous.

Salary and benefits

  • Salary of Β£40,000 to Β£45,000 depending on experience.
  • NHS pension scheme.
  • Annual leave starting at 25 days plus eight bank holidays, rising with service to 30 days plus eight bank holidays.
  • A birthday day and wellbeing day after successful probation, both pro rata.
  • Access to Simplyhealth.
  • Paid travel expenses.
  • Monday to Friday working.
  • 37.5 Hours per week
