Overview

Risk Analyst will support the Head of Risk & Compliance in maintaining and enhancing the firm’s risk management framework. The role’s primary focus is on the enterprise and functional risk registers, ensuring risks are accurately recorded, monitored, and updated, and that mitigation actions and initiatives are followed through to completion. A key part of the role is ensuring that risk mitigation actions are followed through, documented, and aligned with ICAEW Practice Assurance, DPB (Investment Business) requirements, Audit Regulation, and wider regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the enterprise and functional risk registers in line with ICAEW expectations for documentation, monitoring, and governance.
  • Track and follow up on risk mitigation actions, ensuring timely completion and clear evidence trails.
  • Support the identification and assessment of risks relating to audit quality, ethical standards, AML, GDPR, and other ICAEW‑regulated areas.
  • Assist in preparing risk dashboards and reports for senior management, governance committees, and ICAEW-related reviews.
  • Support regular risk reviews through environmental scans with service line leads.
  • Analyse risk data to identify trends, gaps, and areas requiring escalation.
  • Ensure risk mitigation plans are on track with service line leads.
  • Contribute to the development of risk indicators relevant to ICAEW compliance (e.g., audit file quality, independence breaches, AML controls).
  • Assist in updating risk and compliance policies to reflect the business, ICAEW regulatory changes and guidance.
  • Help ensure policies are centralised, communicated effectively across the firm and adhered to consistently.
  • Maintain accurate and organised records to support audit trails and regulatory evidence requirements.
  • Maintain clear documentation of risk and compliance activities to support internal and external reviews.
  • Support the Head of Risk & Compliance in preparing materials for board, committee, and ICAEW-related reporting.
  • Work closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance and service line teams to gather information, monitor actions, and support risk‑related initiatives.
  • Build strong working relationships across the firm to promote a positive risk and compliance culture.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support to the Risk & Compliance function.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Strong analytical and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through on actions.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging colleagues at all levels.
  • Good understanding of ICAEW regulatory requirements (Practice Assurance, Audit Regulations, DPB).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the risk management and compliance field.
  • A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and develop.

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Risk, Business, Finance, Law, Data).
  • Interest in pursuing professional development or qualifications in risk, compliance, or accountancy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a sometimes-pressurised environment with demonstrable ability to prioritise work.
