The Club Nutritionist is responsible for delivering and developing nutritional strategies across the First Team and Academy, supporting performance, recovery, health, and long‑term athlete development. This role sits uniquely between both the First Team and Academy, delivering nutritional strategies aimed at enhancing recovery, health and long‑term athlete development. The role focuses on integrating nutritional practices into the daily environment, supporting staff education, and building sustainable, evidence‑based systems aligned with the club’s performance philosophy. The Club Nutritionist reports to the Director of Medical & Performance and is operationally managed by the First Team Head of Medical & Performance. The role works in close collaboration with the Senior Nutritionist/Academy Head of Medical & Performance to ensure alignment of nutritional practices across the player pathway, and coordinates with external consultants and service providers to deliver consistent and high‑quality nutritional support across all environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Nutrition Delivery: Support matchday, training, and recovery nutrition strategies for both Academy and First Team Players. Contribute to injury management and rehabilitation nutrition in accordance with the AFCB Injury protocols. Provide targeted support for players. Monitor and take charge of supplement provision within the Academy. Monitor Academy body composition, provide clear reports to necessary staff personnel.
- Systems & Integration: Implement club‑wide nutritional frameworks and standards in collaboration with Senior Nutritionist. Integrate nutrition into multidisciplinary performance processes. Support consistency of provision across First Team and Academy.
- Education & Development: Deliver and evolve the current AFCB nutrition education syllabus for Academy players, host families, parents and staff. Support behaviour change and long‑term nutritional habits within both Academy and First Team players. Help develop and shape the Nutrition Culture across the AFCB Academy. Contribute to internal CPD and knowledge sharing.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with catering and operations staff to ensure consistent nutritional provision across environments including the Performance Centre and away travel. Support alignment with external partners and suppliers where required. The role operates within a multidisciplinary framework and does not hold line management authority across departmental structures.
- Departmental Integration: Work within a multidisciplinary team to support player health, performance, and development. Contribute to a “one department” approach, fostering trust, collaboration, and shared accountability across medical and performance staff. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and decision‑making processes related to player management.

As a member of staff to ensure in all matters you follow and actively promote the club’s equality policies and practices to ensure a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for everyone engaged with the club.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise: Undergraduate and postgraduate degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Nutrition, Sport & Exercise Nutrition, Dietetics). Registration with relevant professional body or working towards and achievable in 6 months (e.g. SENr, HCPC). Experience in elite sport preferred. Experience in supporting or delivering nutrition programmes. Minimum ISAK Level 1 certification.
