Senior Civils Planner – Major Infrastructure Projects

An established UK infrastructure and engineering business delivering complex projects across the transport and civil engineering sectors is looking for an experienced Senior Civils Planner to join its delivery team.

The organisation has a long-standing track record of delivering major infrastructure schemes, including rail infrastructure, civil engineering, structures, highways and other complex construction works.

The business focuses on delivering practical, innovative solutions while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, programme performance and value.

The role will be predominantly based from a regional project office and associated construction site in West Yorkshire, with occasional travel to other project and delivery locations across the region.

The Role

As a Senior Civils Planner, you will work closely with project, commercial, engineering and construction teams to develop, manage and maintain robust delivery programmes.

Key responsibilities will include

Collaborating across disciplines to develop and update civil engineering delivery programmes, ensuring a clear understanding of delivery strategy, dependencies, risks and progress.

Supporting progress reporting by providing planning insight, identifying emerging issues and helping develop effective mitigation strategies.

Developing fully resourced programmes and reviewing programme outputs against project requirements and expectations.

Contributing to project risk registers and undertaking schedule risk analysis.

Working with planners, engineers and delivery teams to identify and manage critical interfaces.

Supporting collaborative planning sessions, workshops and interface meetings.

Maintaining accurate and well-organised project planning documentation.

Supporting the development and delivery of planning processes and sharing planning information across project teams.

Contributing to the coaching, development and training of less experienced planning team members.

Preparing programmes for bids and tenders and supporting the management of tender queries.

Developing construction methodologies and establishing competitive outputs in conjunction with estimators, project teams and, where appropriate, the supply chain.

Working with design teams to establish requirements and briefs for temporary works.

Providing estimators and commercial teams with justified programmes for temporary works and other indirect cost elements.

Undertaking other planning and project-related responsibilities as required.

About You

You will ideally have

  • Proven experience working on major civil engineering and/or construction projects.
  • Experience delivering major civils, infrastructure, construction or complex build projects.
  • Railway or transport infrastructure experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong first-principles planning experience, with the ability to develop complex and robust construction programmes from drawings, specifications and project information.
  • Strong working knowledge of planning software such as Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Good understanding of NEC contracts and the relationship between planning, commercial and contractual functions.
  • Experience applying a range of planning techniques across both tendering and live project environments.
  • A clear understanding of programme, commercial and contractual interfaces.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with project teams, clients, designers, commercial teams and supply chain partners.
  • A full UK driving licence.
