Job Title: Warehouse Operative (Dummy Job Description)

Location: Anywarehouse, UK
Reports to: Warehouse Supervisor

Role Overview

The Warehouse Operative is responsible for receiving, storing, picking, packing, and dispatching stock in a safe, accurate, and timely manner. The role supports smooth warehouse operations and helps ensure excellent service to internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Goods In

    • Receive deliveries, check quantities against delivery notes, and report discrepancies.
    • Unload vehicles safely using appropriate equipment (e.g. pallet trucks, forklifts if licensed).
    • Label and store items in designated locations following FIFO/FEFO where applicable.
  • Storage & Inventory

    • Organise stock in racking and shelving according to warehouse layout.
    • Carry out regular stock counts and assist with periodic stocktakes.
    • Report low-stock levels, damages, and quality issues promptly.
  • Order Picking & Packing

    • Pick customer orders accurately using pick lists or handheld scanners.
    • Pack orders securely, ensuring correct labelling and documentation.
    • Prepare pallets and parcels for dispatch in line with carrier requirements.
  • Dispatch

    • Load vehicles safely and efficiently, ensuring correct items and quantities.
    • Complete dispatch paperwork and update warehouse systems as required.
  • Health & Safety & Housekeeping

    • Follow all health & safety, manual handling, and PPE guidelines.
    • Keep work areas clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
    • Immediately report accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • General

    • Use warehouse systems and scanners to update stock movements.
    • Work collaboratively with other warehouse and logistics colleagues.
    • Perform other reasonable duties as required by the Warehouse Supervisor/Manager.
Skills & Experience (Ideal)

  • Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment (desirable, not essential).
  • Basic understanding of stock control and warehouse processes.
  • Experience using handheld scanners or basic warehouse systems (advantageous).
  • Valid forklift licence (counterbalance/reach) desirable but not essential.
Key Competencies

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work to set processes and standards.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual handling tasks.
  • Good time management and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
Working Conditions

  • Full-time, shift-based work (e.g. early, late, or rotating shifts).
  • Predominantly warehouse-based with regular manual handling and standing.
  • Occasional overtime during peak periods.
