We are seeking a passionate and experienced Chef to join our dedicated team at Care Homes for residential & elderly adults, where nutritious, well-balanced meals play a crucial role in the wellbeing of our residents. You will be responsible for preparing and serving meals that meet the diverse dietary requirements and preferences of elderly residents, including those with specific medical or cultural dietary needs.

This role requires someone with a genuine interest in providing high-quality food in a compassionate care environment. You will ensure mealtimes are enjoyable, promote independence and dignity, and maintain compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare daily nutritious meals and snacks that are appetizing and meet residents’ dietary needs (including soft diets, diabetic-friendly, vegetarian, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment in accordance with health and safety, food hygiene, and infection control regulations (e.g., HACCP).
  • Work with care staff and residents to understand preferences and incorporate feedback into menus.
  • Manage kitchen stock levels, order supplies, and minimize food waste.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of food safety checks and resident dietary records.
  • Supervise and support junior kitchen staff, if applicable.
  • Participate in audits and inspections as needed.
  • Accommodate special events and themed meals to enhance residents' quality of life.
RequirementsEssential:
  • Proven experience as a Chef or Cook in a similar environment (care home, healthcare, hospitality).
  • Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 minimum).
  • Strong knowledge of dietary requirements for older adults, including allergens, texture-modified diets, and nutritional guidelines.
  • Ability to plan menus and prepare meals to a high standard in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Compassionate, patient, and understanding toward elderly individuals.
Desirable:
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent.
  • Food Safety Level 3.
  • Experience working with dementia patients.
  • First Aid and COSHH awareness.
  • Experience using electronic dietary management systems.
