We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Fabricator- Plater. The role will be based in Glasgow and will require the successful candidate to be on site full time working a varied shift pattern.
The company works at the cutting edge of technology, creating more than 100 new inventions every year for customers in over 100 countries. They are at the forefront of designing and building world-leading naval ships, vital to supporting the security and defence of nations around the globe.
As part of a growing team, they are looking for a talented and experienced Fabricator Plater to join them in delivering Type 26 frigates to the Royal Navy. In the Fabricator team, they are doing work that impacts the world. To ensure the delivery of vital security products and services, the team works a variety of shifts, including day, back, night and weekend shifts.

- Day Shift: Monday- Thursday 7.00am- 4.30pm
- Night Shift: Monday- Thursday 8.30pm- 6.00am
- Weekend Shift: Friday- Sunday 7am- 7.30pm
Overtime is also available.
All successful candidates will be required to attend a Trade test which will be held in Glasgow. You will also be required to submit your trade certificates after an initial phone call with the recruiter.
Main Responsibilities:
- Interpreting engineering drawings
- Marking – off materials
- Plate preparation, using different methods (Oxy – fuel gas cutting & Hand Grinding)
- Assembling of ships structures, shell, decks, bulkheads, frames, & longitudinals
- Fit, fair and tack weld steelwork using fairing aids
- Fabrication of ship items – seats, ladders, false flooring & panels
- Outfitting Ships items, fitting of hatches, watertight doors, equipment seats & false flooring
- Forming Material using machine tools – Rolling, Flanging & Cutting Machines (guillotine, cropper mechanical saw)
Benefits:
- Shift allowance of 33% on both night and weekend shifts
- Overtime Pay rates are as follows:
- Monday- Thursday: 1.33 (Time and a 3rd)
- Friday: 1.5 (Time and a half for the first 4 hours and 2.00 (Double time) for any hours thereafter
- Saturday: 1.5 (Time and a half)
- Sunday: 2.00 (Double time)
About You:
- Modern Apprenticeship certificate also known as Trade Papers (you will be required to provide papers) and minimum SVQ 3 or equivalent
- Current knowledge and experience in Fabrication
- Understanding of manufacturing processes
- Tack Welding ability
- Oxy-fuel and/or Plasma cutting ability
- Clear understanding of SHE and Risk Assessment
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and/or at height
- Safety certification i.e. SHE Induction, Risk Assessment, working at height etc.
- Background in a major construction / manufacturing environment
You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years.
