Salary: up to £42,000 per annum dependent upon experience

Location: Biggleswade

We currently have a vacancy to join a company that specialises in the restoration of historical aircraft, as a CNC Miller. The role will be based just outside of Biggleswade and the post holder will work 40 hours per week. Flexible working hours are available as is the ability to condense your hours into 4 days per week (10 hours per day) instead of 5 should you wish to. Otherwise, the usual hours of work are 8.30am-5pm, Monday-Friday with a 30 minute lunch break.

Established more than 30 years ago, the business operates, maintains and restores vintage military aircraft. They hold BCAR A8-21, 23 and 25 certifications and their capabilities range from all reverse engineering design work tasks (simple and complex) to the restoration, maintenance and continuing airworthiness management of all non Part 21 aircraft. Their skilled team of engineers uphold the highest standards of authenticity and craftsmanship. Due to an expanding and continuing workload they are looking to recruit an experienced CNC Miller to join their vintage aircraft restoration team. This is an opportunity to carry out engaging and varied work in a unique working environment. They have many interesting projects currently in process and exciting potential work on the horizon.

The CNC Miller's primary duties include operating and programming CNC milling machines to produce precise parts. This includes interpreting engineering drawings, selecting tools, programming the machine, setting up and adjusting machines, running test cycles and inspecting finished parts for accuracy.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Understanding technical drawings and specifications to determine the desired part shape and dimensions.
  • Translating drawing specifications into programming commands for the CNC machine.
  • Preparing the CNC machine for operation, including selecting the correct tools, clamping the workpiece, and setting machine parameters.
  • Running the CNC machine, monitoring its operation, and making adjustments as needed to ensure accurate part production.
  • Measuring and inspecting finished parts to ensure they meet the required tolerances and specifications.
  • Identifying and resolving issues with the machine, programming, or tooling.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks on the CNC machine, including cleaning, lubricating, and calibrating components.
  • Working with engineers and other machinists to optimize manufacturing processes and improve product quality.
  • Adhering to all safety procedures and regulations.
