What the role will involve
This role will support and technically lead the Astute Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) programme. The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Defining and executing the engineering strategy to deliver IPMS capability to the Astute platform in compliance with established business processes and procedures.
- Lead a small cross-functional engineering team to deliver programme objectives across cost, quality, and schedule performance.
- Collaborate closely with Programme and Project Managers to identify and develop new opportunities, define technical scope, and support cost estimation and delivery planning.
- Report programme progress to the business through the use of performance metrics, proactively highlighting risks, issues, and concerns.
- Serve as the primary customer point of contact for all engineering and technical matters, ensuring effective communication and resolution of issues throughout the programme lifecycle.
What you’ll bring
The role requires the following experience and skills:
- Minimum of 7 years prior relevant experience technically leading defence programmes.
- Excellent understanding of systems concepts, context, boundaries, interfaces, system hierarchy and the principles of system partitioning in order to help manage complexity.
- Excellent planning communications and coordination skills with demonstrable experience of leading programme engineering teams.
- Excellent IT skills (Experience with DOORS is essential; System Architect or Rhapsody would be beneficial).
- Experience of leading the technical aspects of a bid.
- Understands the characteristics of good quality requirements, elicitation methods and tools and good understanding of requirements engineering within Defence Projects.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience of working on submarine programmes.
- Preferably have a Software Engineering background.
- Preferably have experience of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Knowledge of MODAF and DODAF architectural frameworks.
