Mission description
Job Purpose
The Payroll Officer will help manage end-to-end payroll processes for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and internal policies. The role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Process payroll end to end, ensuring accuracy and timely payments
- Calculate salaries, overtime, bonuses, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP) and deductions
- Maintain employee payroll records, including starters, leavers, and changes, liaising with the wider HR team to ensure deadlines are met and data is accurate
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, including PAYE, National Insurance, and Pension Compliance with auto-enrolment pension processes
- Handle payroll queries from employees in a timely and professional manner, escalating where appropriate
- Always ensure confidentiality and security of payroll data
- Assist with year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds where applicable
- Support audits and provide required payroll documentation
Qualifications / Key Skills
- Proven experience in a payroll role within the UK
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll and pension legislation and HMRC requirements
- Experience using payroll systems (ADP) and Microsoft Excel
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
