Mission description
- Provide technical guidance on materials and processes matters to ensure production continues and to act proactively by improving reliability and cost-effectiveness in future motor and generator designs, especially related to permanent magnets, composites and polymers, joining technologies and NDT.
- Provide expertise to carry out in-depth material investigations (including materials testing and analysis) and define root cause analysis on product issues, diagnosing and suggesting solutions to production problems.
- Act as part of a project team to recommend approaches or analyses for new designs, and lead work packages for specific technical issues when required.
- Work with suppliers and customers to ensure optimal solutions ensuring products are safe to fly, committing to challenging project schedules.
- Collaborate with other Safran entities and experts to maximise the site's technical ability, working with Engineering departments, R&T, Project Teams, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customers to solve materials and processes related issues.
- Act as a technical authority for material and process-related qualifications, approvals and issues/non-conformances, maintaining and updating material and process specifications.
- Participate in and lead customer briefings, design reviews, and demonstrations, providing technical guidance to ensure the highest possible quality standards for electrical generators.
- Work with suppliers for material issues and monitor outsource tests for non-conforming products and qualification of new products.
- Support university-based research as needed and coach less experienced engineers.
Essential Qualifications
- A degree in Materials Engineering or related discipline.
- Substantial focused experience in materials or a related field (either through academic qualification or work experience or both).
- Broad materials and processes knowledge (metallurgy, additive manufacturing, polymers, elastomers, composites, adhesives, joining technologies, surface treatment and corrosion).
- Prior exposure to and experience writing technical reports.
- Good communication skills for presenting technical data, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as to take individual responsibility and make decisions.
- Evidence of written English at interview stage.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in the Aerospace industry and familiarity with corresponding processes and procedures.
- Experience in permanent magnets, composites and polymers, joining technologies and NDT.
- Experience with direct dealings with external customers.
- Experience of working with Engineering service suppliers, i.e. defining Statements of Work and approving deliverables.
