About the Role

Senior windows specialist with a focus on hardware driver integration, packaging and troubleshooting at scale across our growing global multi-airport environment. The role holder will be fully responsible for hardware integration across our global common use platform. This role is well suited to someone who understands how Windows interacts with hardware in real-world, mission critical environments and is comfortable troubleshooting issues across drivers, devices, and system configuration. Experience with airport or common use environments is beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing & packaging all new driver versions & updates across our estate, being responsible for their deployment across our common use platform
  • Working with internal development teams, contributing to the direction of our peripheral middleware
  • Dealing with technical conflicts, managing versioning writing technical documentation
  • The escalation point for the troubleshooting of device-related issues during deployments to new sites or in live support (with occasional on-site presence globally required)
  • Working to automate the deployment & configuration of hardware peripherals to the highest extent possible
  • Collaboration directly with equipment manufacturers for troubleshooting, new release management and feeding back our experience to their teams as a trusted partner
  • Working in our office most days, to have access to our lab environment and physical peripherals
  • Occasional travel to global customer sites
  • Flexible working hours to collaborate with different global teams and customers

What are we looking for?

  • Strong understanding of Windows OS fundamentals, including: Processes, services & system behaviour, System startup and startup mechanisms, Registry structure and configuration
  • Proven experience troubleshooting how Windows interacts with hardware in real-world environments
  • Hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting peripherals such as: Printers (e.g. label, receipt or boarding pass printers), Scanners (e.g. barcode, passport), Payment terminals, USB and serial-connected devices
  • Experience diagnosing: Driver conflicts and failures, Device recognition issues, Intermittent hardware faults in real-world, remote environments
  • Understanding of: Driver installation and lifecycle, Device Manager and hardware diagnostics, USB device behaviour and common failure points
  • Experience with: Group Policy (GPO), Intune / Endpoint Manager & Software Application Packaging Tools, Packaging applications and drivers for deployment, Security and device hardening
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with ability to go beyond basic fixes
  • Strong Scripting capability (including PowerShell)
  • Automation first mindset, ideally with experience working with DevOps methodologies
