Lineman Appr 1st Yr in Tipton

Assist in the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. Drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment.

What You’ll Do:

• Open and close switches and install grounding devices on lines and equipment.
• Climb poles or ride in a bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or other hardware on poles.
• Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads, and pedestals.
• Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators using hand tools and mechanical devices.
• Cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high‑voltage lines without interrupting service.
• Use insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools to perform energized line work up to 138 KV or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work up to 15 KV.

What We’re Looking For:

• Education requirements: High School Education/GED.
• Work Experience requirement: No experience required. Line work experience or line school education is preferred.
• Required License(s)/Certification(s): Must possess and maintain a valid CDL state driver’s license or be able to obtain one within six months.
• Pre‑Employment tests: HireVue Line worker Assessment.
• Other Requirements: Must reside within a 35‑mile radius/40 roadway miles of the service location. Must have the ability to climb and work at heights. Must have the ability to communicate with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner. Must pass the AEP Pre‑Assessment Evaluation. Must acquire, within a time determined by the Company, the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the next higher line of progression or vacate the current job classification.

Work Hours / Travel Requirements:

• 40 hours per week with overtime and travel as required. Must be available for overtime callout including weekends and holidays. This role requires regular overtime and on‑call response. Travel, including out‑of‑town travel, may also be required.

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H – Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10‑20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
