Role overview
We are looking for a solar engineer who can take full ownership of system design, technical standards, and installation quality across a range of projects (3 kW to 200 kW+). The work will involve designing traditional solar systems, as well as innovative renewable integration in and out of island grids. This is not a support role. You will be the technical authority for solar systems, responsible for making design decisions, improving processes, and ensuring systems are safe, robust, and well executed. You will work directly with the CTO of AEON Group on technical designs and the technicians installing on the ground.
Responsibilities
- Design solar + battery systems (small residential to large commercial)
- Produce clear system designs (SLDs, component selection, protection strategy)
- Define and improve technical standards (design, installation, commissioning)
- Review installations and enforce technical quality and safety
- Troubleshoot system issues and resolve root causes
- Work closely with technicians and operations teams to improve execution
- Translate field issues into better design and processes
- Travels to inspect field installations and assess issues from the ground.
- Assist in development of new technical products
Requirements
- 8+ years experience in solar PV systems
- Proven experience designing AND commissioning real systems
- Experience with hybrid systems (PV + battery + grid/generator)
- Strong understanding of: Protection (RCDs, earthing, SPD), System architecture (AC/DC coupling, inverter behaviour), Practical installation constraints
- Strong understanding of solar & grid constraints
- Ability to troubleshoot systems in real conditions
- Structured thinker with clear technical reasoning
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership
What we are looking for
- Someone who proposes solutions, not just raises problems
- Someone who improves systems and processes proactively
- Someone who communicates technical decisions clearly and logically
- Someone who works well with technicians and respects field realities
- Someone interested by changing the limits of what is possible in islands grids
