Our client is a market-making firm operating in global energy derivatives, and a leading provider of liquidity in these markets.
The Team
The Direct Trading team is the link between the firm's clients and its market-making traders. They are, in effect, the desk's salespeople: they facilitate deals, present the firm's offering as a leading liquidity provider, and work continually to grow the client base.
The Role
The firm is recruiting a Junior Direct Trader, suitable for someone with around a year of experience. The successful candidate will sit between clients and the trading desk, helping to facilitate deals and build relationships, and will take on responsibility for their own client coverage over time. The role suits someone commercially minded and proactive, who is comfortable picking up the phone, building rapport, and pursuing new business.
Responsibilities
- Acting as a point of contact between clients and the market-making desk, facilitating trades and ensuring deals run smoothly
- Communicating the firm's pricing and liquidity offering clearly and credibly to clients
- Building and maintaining client relationships, and identifying opportunities to deepen them
- Pursuing new clients and contributing to the growth of the firm's portfolio
- Working closely with traders to understand the products, pricing and the desk's appetite
- Keeping accurate records of client activity and following up consistently
Requirements
- Approximately one year of relevant experience in sales, trading, broking, or a related client-facing or commercial role
- A proactive, commercially driven approach: comfortable initiating contact and pursuing business
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to deal with clients directly
- Sound numerical ability and a genuine interest in markets and risk
- The composure to work under pressure and the resilience to handle rejection and keep going
- Able to work on-site, full-time, as part of a small team
- Exposure to commodities, energy or derivatives markets
- Existing client relationships or experience in a broking or institutional sales environment
- Familiarity with trading platforms and tools such as Excel or Python
- A degree in a numerate discipline, though track record and aptitude carry more weight
A client-facing seat in the Direct Trading team at an early stage of your career. Mentorship from experienced colleagues and the opportunity to take on responsibility quickly. A performance-led environment, with compensation linked to results.
