Senior Pensions Technical Consultant

Type: Permanent

Location: Edinburgh or Peterborough (hybrid model, minimum 40% in-office)

Salary: £46,960 – £60,000 (dependent on experience)

Role Overview

We seek an experienced pensions professional with deep technical expertise and comprehensive knowledge of UK pensions legislation and regulation. You should be adept at interpreting complex information clearly and providing guidance to stakeholders, including senior leaders and external advisers. Your work will support our business goals and customer needs, with a focus on high-quality, actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor government consultations, legislation, and industry updates; analyze impacts on Aegon’s pension products; communicate regulatory changes effectively.
  • Create and maintain technical materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure compliance with pensions legislation across all products and communications.
  • Review and approve technical content in marketing and product materials.
  • Lead technical workstreams in regulatory and strategic projects; ensure compliance and support incident resolution.
  • Respond to complex technical queries from advisers and internal teams; collaborate with Legal on challenging cases.
  • Mentor colleagues and share knowledge through training and online learning.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical expertise and support team development.
  • Assist the line manager in workload management and task allocation.

Candidate Profile

  • Extensive experience in a technical pensions role.
  • Strong understanding of UK financial services regulation.
  • Deep knowledge of UK pensions legislation, regulation, and guidance.
  • Proven ability to handle complex customer inquiries with accurate, practical, and clear responses.
  • Ability to influence decisions using HMRC, DWP, and TPR guidance.
  • Excellent planning, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Innovative mindset with a knack for improving workflows and leveraging technology.
  • Leadership qualities to drive initiatives and transformations.
