Purpose of the Role
AEGIS London currently has a vacancy in the Portfolio Solutions team for an Underwriter to help service, build and diversify the portfolio alongside the existing team. The role will involve underwriting delegated authority and treaty business. It will also require acting as a point person for certain administrative activities, including EPI management, bordereaux queries and related operational processes. This is an opportunity for an underwriter to play a broad role across both underwriting and portfolio management within a small and collaborative team.
Duties and Accountabilities
- To underwrite business on behalf of the Syndicate in accordance with personal underwriting authority and the Syndicate’s underwriting procedures and class underwriting guidelines, achieving the business mix, planned premium income and ultimate loss ratios as contained within the agreed business plan.
- To assist with performance management of the portfolio.
- To share information and collaborate with the team, including regular peer reviews and ensuring risk records are complete and available for review in a timely manner.
- A focus on aiding the development of other members of the team.
- To liaise with other departments as appropriate (credit control, claims, underwriting risk management etc).
- To provide service to brokers and clients of the highest standard. The role will be client facing and will involve travel where appropriate in the normal course of the business.
- To work as part of a collaborative team within AEGIS London and ensure good working relationships are maintained with all colleagues.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of writing profitable business globally within the Re(Insurance) market.
- Experience writing Delegated Authority and/or Treaty business, including generating new business opportunities and handling all aspects of the underwriting process, as well as ongoing portfolio management and reporting.
- Strong organisation, administration and planning skills.
- Well-developed presenting, analytical and negotiation skills.
- Good communication skills with the ability to present well to both internal and external audiences.
- ACII qualification would be advantageous, or progress towards it.
- Good IT skills including MS Office applications with a particular focus on Excel and a good ability to learn new systems.
- The ability to work as part of a team and build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
