Purpose of the Role
To underwrite and develop the syndicate’s global War, Terrorism & Political Violence portfolio in accordance with the Syndicate’s Business Plan, class strategy, underwriting guidelines and personal underwriting authorities as well as supporting the Class Underwriter when required. This position would suit someone fully versed in the class with well developed stakeholder management and business development skills.

Duties And Accountabilities
- To diligently, thoughtfully and responsibly underwrite Terrorism & Political Violence business on behalf of the Syndicate in accordance with personal underwriting authorities and the Syndicate’s underwriting procedures, referring risks to the Class Underwriter, Head of Department or Chief Underwriting Officer when or if required.
- To achieve the required business mix, planned premium income and ULRs as agreed within the business plan.
- To assist the Class Underwriter in formulating the account business plan with the Head of Department and Active Underwriter.
- To monitor Opal, binders, facilities and lineslips for declarations, premium income and aggregates, including the undertaking of referrals and reviews when applicable.
- To establish, maintain and service client and producer relationships.
- To ensure that the service provided to brokers, coverholders and policyholders is of the highest standard.
- To undertake business travel when appropriate in order to cultivate and maintain business relationships.
- To assist the Class Underwriter in the management and development of Assistant Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants.
- To liaise with other AEGIS London underwriters, senior management and auditors as required.
- To complete other duties as directed, including project work and the development of new products.
Skills, Knowledge And Experience
- A thorough working knowledge and sufficient experience of the Terrorism / PV market, including detailed comprehension of policy wordings, coverages, premium rates and risk factors.
- Strong geopolitical interests; including a detailed understanding of regional and global security environments.
- Outstanding analytical skills.
- Strong negotiation and decision-making skills.
- The ability to work collegiately as part of a team, as well as individually when required.
- Good presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent social skills with the ability to forge and maintain long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively.
- ACII qualification would be advantageous.
- Academics in a relevant subject field (i.e International Relations, History, Politics) would be advantageous.
