STC is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

As part of this project, we are currently looking for an Environmental Inspector to join our team.

What You Will Do:

  • The Environmental Inspector reports to the Compliance Officer and is responsible for ensuring compliance of the works with the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Conduct monitoring and inspections on all aspects of the Works in accordance with the EMS.
  • Maintain a log of monitoring and inspection events, which shall include photographic evidence to support the observations recorded during such monitoring and inspection events.
  • Complete monitoring and inspection reports and provide to the Environmental Compliance Officer and as part of the Monthly Environmental Report provide advice and recommendations for improving environmental protection and correcting any inefficient practices and/or issues of non-compliance within 24 hours of noticing a potential issue.
  • Additional tasks as defined by the Compliance Officer and/or Environmental Director.

Experience You Will Bring:

  • A diploma or a bachelor or advanced degree in an environmental related discipline (ecology/biology/environmental science) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • A minimum of five years of demonstrated work experience in all aspects of environmental monitoring and mitigation during roadway construction or construction of transit infrastructure, specifically with respect to work in and around watercourses and in the application and correction of erosion and sedimentation control measures, reporting spills and the containment of effluent and dust during construction.
  • Certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC), or have proven proficiency in observing, inspecting and reporting on the implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
  • Candidates must have a valid G class driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle. Non-business hours may be required for attending to critical situations.
