What is the Opportunity? Aecon Industrial provides high-performance construction services to a broad array of industrial clients across the country and offers single-source solutions for multi-trade industrial construction and fabrication projects. The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Advisor reports to the EHS Manager. This position is a 1 year contract.
What You'll Do Here:
- Work directly with EHS Manager and Fabrication team to support accountability in relation to Environment Health and Safety.
- Conduct routine inspections of paint booths, storage areas, and equipment to ensure safe operations and compliance with safety standards.
- Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous paints, solvents, and chemicals.
- Verify the proper function of ventilation systems, respirator equipment, and fire suppression systems.
- Ensure all employees wear necessary personal protective equipment and its maintained properly.
- Maintain detailed records of inspection reports, hazardous waste logs, safety training and air monitoring results.
- Provide advisement and monitoring of the development, implementation, performance and effectiveness of the Safety Management Program, and all other EHS related plans.
- Notify Managers and Supervisors of any compliance issues associated with the work and assist in the development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Have a field facing approach to safety management.
- Spend time in the field advising staff, modelling behaviour and re-enforcing standards.
- Ensure effective completion of project safety meetings and support or conduct audits and incident investigations.
- Ensure that EHS metrics (leading and lagging indicators) are regularly compiled, trended and reviewed with the EHS Manager and operational teams.
- Take an advisor role in promoting injury prevention within a culture of health, safety and continuous improvement.
- Support the facility in notifications and event management.
- Train staff in the requirements of safety procedures.
What You Bring to the Team:
- A designation such as NSCO or CRSP, or specialized training on paint safety/hazmat is an asset.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in Health and Safety within the nuclear, construction or manufacturing painting environment.
- Background in chemical safety, Industrial Hygiene, and/or environmental health considered a strong asset, particularly in industrial painting and coating operations.
- Understanding of WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), VOC limitations and safety standards for spray painting.
- Relevant Post Secondary education or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety field.
- A Team Player that accepts and can manage change regularly.
- Demonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage sub-contractors safety performance.
- Emergency Planning.
- Working in a union environment.

The expected pay range for this role is $85,000 - $95,000 per year. Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
