STC is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.
As part of this project, we are currently looking for a Safety Training Advisor to join our team.
What You Will Do
- Proactively contribute to the safety training and audit team, fostering a culture of safety, quality, teamwork, and motivation in all aspects of training.
- Collaborate with construction and tooling staff to identify training needs and determine the most effective delivery methods.
- Assist in the development of comprehensive training and audit materials, including lesson plans, practical evaluations, and written exams.
- Participate in series training and audit review meetings to document lessons learned and identify areas for improvement in the training process.
- Identify and address gaps in H&S (Health and Safety), and Human Performance training requirements for skilled trades involved in all aspects of Construction activities.
- Work with operations and implementation leads to ensure that training programs align with project needs.
- Utilize available metrics and analysis to develop and implement a continuous improvement strategy for training and auditing.
- Identify technical training requirements and develop materials to educate project team members on safely and efficiently performing their assigned tasks.
- Oversee the safety performance of the project and ensure that all safety protocols and regulations are followed diligently.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Provide safety training and auditing reports, dashboards, and other updates to senior management and other relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures, keeping them up to date with the latest regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct safety meetings and training sessions for project personnel and ensure that all safety-related information is effectively communicated.
- Collaborate with the H&S Training and Audits Manager, and the Safety Director in establishing safety objectives and KPIs for the project.
- Mentor and coach team members on safety-related matters, encouraging a proactive safety culture.
- Be informed of safety-related incidents, investigations, and documentation, including root cause analysis and implementation of preventive measures on the Project and how this may lead to the development or refinement of training courses and/or focused audits.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure that all project personnel are adequately trained and certified in relevant safety programs.
- Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging safety technologies to enhance safety practices on the project.
- Roll out of new trainings as per schedule and assessed needs.
- Oversee reporting and dashboarding of training and audit statistics.
- Manage financial records of training and auditing teams, in conjunction with finance department.
- Ensure training offerings and audit criteria comply with the Project Agreement.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the H&S Training and Audits Manager, and the Safety Director.
Experience You Will Bring
- Post‑secondary education in Health & Safety, Construction, or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the construction industry, including managerial experience.
- Experience leading or facilitating ISO 45001 Audits.
- Relevant Health and Safety certifications and accreditations, such as WHMIS, Working at Heights, Train the Trainer programs, and Joint Health and Safety Committee certifications.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canadian Standards Association guidelines, the Canada Labour Code, and other applicable Health and Safety regulations.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with a large team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey safety information clearly and concisely.
