Role Context
Energy sector roles within the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Engineering team support grid modernisation and the delivery of low-carbon energy solutions. The programme includes new overhead lines, underground cables, substations, battery storage and subsea links, contributing to UK grid modernisation and net zero targets.
Responsibilities
- Join the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team providing services from initial concept through High Voltage Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing and Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Converter Station Design and HVDC/Interconnectors including overseas links.
- Contribute to projects such as modernising the UK’s energy infrastructure, including opportunities like the National Grid Great Grid Program (in joint venture with Arup) to upgrade transmission networks and integrate renewable energy sources by 2030.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver design consultancy services that meet relevant standards and project requirements.
- Engage across the project lifecycle to support grid development and energy transition initiatives.
Qualifications
- An electrical/electronic/power engineering or similar qualification, such as an HNC, HND, BSc/BEng and/or an MSc/MEng.
- Demonstrable electrical engineering design consultancy experience on transmission and distribution projects.
- Working knowledge of BS and/or Eurocodes for relevant engineering design standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally and in writing, with confidence to engage with clients, colleagues, stakeholders and sub-contractors and to rationally explain and discuss technical issues.
