We are looking to enhance and grow our Electrification & Power team with a Principal Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer. The role involves accepting responsibility for the technical and commercial delivery of key projects across the UK and potentially international projects. You will oversee the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and outline design to detailed design and construction support, ensuring designs are accurate, cost‑effective, constructable, and compliant with relevant codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Deliver complex rail projects to client satisfaction, ensuring drawings and calculations are accurate.
- Act as Discipline Lead / CRE (Contractor’s Responsible Engineer) on key projects focused on traction power and high voltage substation systems.
- Lead the delivery of complex traction power and substation design packages across all project stages and provide technical leadership and mentorship.
- Work closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate and ensure efficient delivery.
- Maintain oversight of design assurance and governance, approve concept and detailed design documentation, and undertake final technical reviews.
- Undertake site visits and surveys to inform design development, resolve technical issues, and provide construction‑stage support.
- Assist in preparing technical input for bids and proposals, demonstrating strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in traction power and high voltage substation design.
- Demonstrable experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer.
- Experience delivering complex projects through feasibility, outline, and detailed design stages.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination and overseeing design teams.
- Chartered status, working toward chartership, or demonstrable experience operating at Principal level.
- Low voltage experience desirable but not essential.
