We’re looking for talented Principal Civil Water and Wastewater Engineers to join AECOM’s Southeast Water Team — leading and delivering exciting projects that help our clients achieve their AMP8 outcomes. You’ll work on new and upgraded water and wastewater networks and treatment works of all sizes and design stages. We offer a flexible, hybrid working model from our offices in Basingstoke, Cambridge, Central London, Croydon, and St Albans. Our key clients in the Southeast include Affinity Water, Anglian Water, Southern Water, Thames Water, and Tier 1 contractors such as Barhale, Kier, and MGroup.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Oversee: Manage the delivery of complex tasks and projects, ensuring budget adherence and technical excellence. Lead the technical delivery on multiple projects, reviewing work produced by others to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Provide Expertise: Offer technical knowledge and expertise to the design team at all stages, including feasibility studies, outline design, detailed designs, and preparing technical specifications.
- Ensure Quality: Ensure design compliance with all applicable standards and regulations, providing technical expertise for interdisciplinary analytical studies.
- Collaborate: Work closely with clients to develop scope, price proposals, and communicate project progress. Collaborate with our Project Managers and Lead Design Engineers to solve problems and deliver benefits to the communities we serve.
- Develop: Support the development of junior team members and undertake line management responsibilities.

Qualifications: Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Proven experience within the water sector at the Principal Engineer level, ideally within the UK&I or with a good appreciation of UK&I norms and standards.
- Experience in designing and managing the technical delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure upgrade schemes from feasibility and outline design to detailed design and construction support.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
