Job Description
We’re looking for talented and motivated students to join our Traffic Engineering team on an Industrial Placement, where you’ll gain hands‑on experience, contribute to real projects, and develop technical skills that will kick‑start your career. As part of our Streets & Technology group within AECOM’s Transportation business line, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to design, analyse, and improve transport networks that support safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility.
What you’ll do:
- Designing and modelling urban streets, junctions, and roundabouts using industry‑standard software (e.g., Junctions, LinSig, VISSIM).
- Supporting traffic impact assessments and microsimulation modelling.
- Assisting with road safety audits and developing traffic management solutions.
- Analysing traffic data, journey times, and flows to inform design and planning.
- Contributing to active travel projects by designing walking, cycling, and public transport‑friendly networks.
- Supporting feasibility studies and scheme appraisals for transport improvements.
- Preparing drawings, reports, and presentations to communicate findings to clients and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- You are currently studying towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation/Traffic Engineering, Highway Engineering, or a related discipline.
- You are passionate about shaping the future of mobility and improving how people move within towns and cities.
- You have strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with solid numeracy.
- You can work effectively as part of a team and communicate ideas clearly.
- You have good Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- You are detail‑oriented with excellent research and report writing skills.
- You are self‑motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to learn new software and tools.
- You are eligible to work in the United Kingdom and Ireland for the duration of the placement.
