Job Description

Start here. Grow here. Are you ready to shape the future of water infrastructure alongside a team of exceptional engineers? Join our dynamic Water team as an Associate Director, Civils Technical Lead, based in our rapidly growing South East offices (London, Croydon, St Albans & Basingstoke). With our flexible hybrid working model, you'll be part of a forward-thinking organisation that values creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

At AECOM, we're leading the way in delivering transformative water projects through long-term partnerships with Thames Water, Southern Water, Wessex Water, Welsh Water, Severn Trent Water, and major international clients and Tier 1 Contractors. Our Water team delivers projects across the full lifecycle — from potable water and wastewater networks to treatment works, spanning feasibility through to detailed design and asset management. This role offers a standout opportunity to make a real impact while working with a highly skilled, diverse team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Provide technical leadership on projects, ensuring timely and accurate outcomes by reviewing the work produced by others.
  • Lead designs at all stages, including feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and prepare reports and technical specifications.
  • Oversee efficient project delivery, managing risk and ensuring projects stay on budget and on schedule.
  • Ensure quality management, compliance with standards and regulations, and offer technical expertise for interdisciplinary studies.
  • Drive success in work winning through bid management, tender production, and proposal preparation.
  • Actively contribute to the resourcing and management of both local and wider teams.
  • Take on line management responsibilities, guiding and managing junior staff, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Support the development of junior team members by mentoring them in both technical work and their progression towards ICE accreditation.

If you're passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, AECOM welcomes you. Join our team, where we don’t just construct infrastructure but also uplift communities and enhance lives.

Enjoy the Perks. At AECOM you'll enjoy a range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well-being, customised to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Chartered with a relevant institution e.g. ICE, CIWEM.
  • A strong technical water sector background, including experience of delivering schemes for relevant clients and knowledge of relevant industry and UK wide codes and standards.
  • A strong desire to provide guidance, mentoring and technical advice to support junior staff, both on projects and to help progress their chartership journey.

If you meet some of the requirements above or have transferable skills you believe would benefit us, we would be delighted to hear from you!
