We are the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, partnering with clients to solve the world’s most complex challenges and build legacies for future generations.

AECOM is seeking to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with a highways and drainage focus to join our busy Development Infrastructure Team in St Albans. The team delivers a wide range of multidisciplinary, predominantly residential-led infrastructure projects. Our work spans early scoping and feasibility, technical support for planning, detailed infrastructure design for implementation, and ongoing support during construction. In addition, the team supports AECOM design teams across the UK and Ireland on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects, including highways, rail, water infrastructure, and solar farms.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Lead the technical and digital delivery of civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare and review survey specifications, including utilities and topographical surveys.
  • Check and coordinate the production of studies, assessments, and conceptual designs for development schemes (drainage, highways, utilities, earthworks, and flood risk).
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and key stakeholders to secure approvals and ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to bids and proposals, attend project meetings, and confidently communicate technical solutions.

And let’s not forget about the perks at AECOM. You’ll enjoy a range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well-being, customised to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work–life balance that suits your lifestyle, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days.

Requirements:

  • Civil Engineering degree (BEng) and/or Master’s degree (MEng).
  • Relevant experience, ideally within a consultancy environment, delivering highways and drainage design for residential, commercial, and wider infrastructure schemes.
  • Proficient in industry-standard software, including InfoDrainage, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Experience working with developer clients and contractors, with a proven track record of delivering infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS is welcomed but not essential, along with an interest in integrated AI solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BEng or MEng with progress toward Incorporated or Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), or membership of CIWEM or CIHT.

To support this commitment, all newly hired employees are required to attend an in‑person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.
