You’ll join AECOM’s EHS Compliance and Environmental Due Diligence team, supporting clients across the UK’s pharmaceutical, manufacturing, technology, energy and process industries.
This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial, commercially minded EHS professional to help grow our UK EHS compliance business. Alongside leading technical delivery, you’ll develop client relationships, identify opportunities and win new work. You’ll have the support of an established team and AECOM’s wider multidisciplinary network to develop our offering and build a sustainable pipeline.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Develop clients and grow the business
- Take an active role in growing our UK EHS compliance offering, identifying target clients, market opportunities and areas for service development.
- Build and maintain client relationships, understanding their operational challenges and translating these into consultancy opportunities.
- Generate and pursue new leads, expand existing accounts and convert opportunities into secured commissions.
- Lead proposals, bids and fee preparation, developing clear scopes, compelling propositions and commercially sound delivery approaches.
- Work with AECOM’s account managers, sector leads and technical teams to introduce EHS services to existing clients and develop integrated opportunities.
- Contribute to business planning, pipeline development and pursuit priorities, taking ownership of agreed business development activities and outcomes.
- Represent AECOM at client meetings, industry events and professional forums to strengthen our market presence.
Lead technical delivery
- Lead and deliver EHS compliance audits, gap assessments and regulatory advisory projects for clients across the UK.
- Assess compliance with applicable environmental, health and safety legislation and corporate requirements through site inspections, document reviews and interviews.
- Identify EHS compliance risks and develop practical, prioritised corrective actions and improvement plans.
- Prepare and review technical deliverables, including EHS audit reports, legal registers, compliance evaluations and corrective action plans.
- Support clients in developing and improving EHS policies, procedures and management systems, including alignment with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Provide practical advice on operational EHS matters, drawing on specialist colleagues where required.
- Manage project scope, programme, budget, quality and commercial performance, maintaining clear communication with clients.
- Keep up to date with UK EHS legislation, regulatory developments and industry practice, recognising differences in requirements across the UK.
Develop our capability
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to junior colleagues.
- Work with colleagues across environmental, health and safety, engineering and sustainability disciplines to deliver integrated services.
- Contribute to consistent technical standards, effective delivery approaches and the development of our EHS compliance capability.
- Help align team capability and resources with emerging client needs and growth opportunities.
Qualifications
Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Education: A degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline. A relevant professional qualification, such as a NEBOSH qualification, and membership or chartership with an appropriate professional body would be advantageous.
- Experience & Technical Expertise: Demonstrable experience delivering EHS compliance services within consultancy or an industrial environment, with strong understanding of external client service and commercial delivery. Strong working knowledge of UK environmental, health and safety legislation and its application to industrial and commercial operations. Proven experience leading EHS compliance audits, gap assessments and regulatory reviews, translating findings into practical recommendations. Experience across environmental and health and safety compliance, with the judgement to recognise when specialist technical input is required. Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems and their relationship to legal compliance. Strong technical reporting, reviewing, project management and client communication skills.
- Business Development & Commercial Skills: Evidence of developing client relationships, identifying opportunities and contributing to winning consultancy work. Experience preparing proposals, defining scopes and fees, and managing the commercial aspects of projects. The ability to turn technical expertise into clear, relevant services that address client needs. An entrepreneurial mindset, with the initiative and persistence to develop opportunities and help build the business. At Principal Consultant level, a demonstrable track record of winning work, growing client accounts and leading pursuits from initial engagement through to appointment. At Senior Consultant level, evidence of contributing to successful bids and client development, with the ambition and capability to take greater ownership of business growth.
- Skills & Personal Attributes: Confidence in engaging with site teams, senior client stakeholders and decision-makers. A proactive, collaborative approach, combining commercial ambition with sound technical judgement. Ability to balance business development, project delivery and support for colleagues.
