Project Commercial Manager - Water

Overview

Project Commercial Manager – Water at AECOM. Reporting to the Commercial Manager of Water and working with the Business Unit Operations Director and commercial team, you will enhance project commercial outcomes, drive commercial best practice, manage change, mitigate risks, and support project managers in commercial matters across multiple projects and frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Directors, and Lead Verifiers in the commercial management of projects to ensure successful delivery.
• Provide expertise in contract and risk management, focusing on contract communications, change management, programme, delay damages, key contract dates and insurances. Carry out detailed analyses of challenged projects and report issues from commercial and finance perspectives.
• Ensure quality by using contract administration platforms (e.g., CEMAR and Asite) to oversee client communications and instructions; manage changes with attention to commercial implications and risk.
• Oversee project reviews, commercial discussions with clients and suppliers, and the execution of action items. Prepare subcontract documents to achieve a back-to-back position.
• Mentor technical staff to heighten commercial awareness and expertise.
• Deliver with a focus on reducing disallowed costs and efficiently managing expenditures from AECOM and its subcontractors/subconsultants/supply chain; contribute to Go/No-Go documents for new or significantly changed projects.
• Scope of projects includes: Water Treatment Plants, Wastewater Treatment Plants, Flood Risk Management, Water Supply Systems, Hydraulic Modelling, River and Coastal Engineering, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), Desalination Projects, Water Resource Management, and Irrigation Systems.

Qualifications

• Experience in a legal, commercial, or financial role within the engineering or construction industry.
• Degree (or equivalent) in finance, law, quantity surveying, commercial management, or an engineering discipline; postgraduate business qualifications are advantageous.
• Knowledge of contract law and various forms of contract (e.g., NEC3, NEC4, government frameworks, bespoke design & build agreements).
• Experience in project, commercial and risk management, including client-facing roles.
• Experience communicating with clients, subcontractors, and subconsultants to proactively resolve commercial performance concerns/risks.
