We have secured places on major frameworks with the Environment Agency, National Grid, Wessex Water, Anglian Water, National Highways, Southern Water and South West Water. Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Hydrologist in one of our UK offices – whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. At this exciting time, you will manage resources and identify training requirements across our northern modelling teams. This role has not been previously defined and is yours to develop, with the support of a national modelling community.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Deliver: Technically lead flood hydrological assessments which are assisting the design of flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments or the preparation of Environment Agency flood maps. Technically review reports documenting hydrological assessments.
  • Quality: Keep up-to-date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services and share them with the team. Apply industry standard guidance (FEH) to derive flood flows estimations for a range of catchment types throughout England.
  • Collaboration: Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines. Support the wider Water Team in business development activities for a wide range of clients on national and international projects.
  • Support: Mentor staff within the team in hydrological estimation to support their professional development
  • Lead: Represent AECOM at conferences to showcase our expertise. Drive innovation within the team to deliver our projects efficiently and right first-time. Be an active member of our national community of hydrologists and hydraulic modellers.

  • Nationally Significant Infrastructure schemes where detailed flood modelling is needed to robustly inform the flood risk assessments.
  • Great Grid Partnership which is enabling the UK’s energy transition and comprises of 17 major onshore and offshore projects.
  • Environment Agency Mapping and Modelling Framework delivering national, catchment and local scale flood risk mapping and modelling to support the EA’s obligations to its customers.
  • Thames Water Professional Services Framework covering the multidisciplinary services, engineering services and environmental services.
  • Severn Trent Water Design Services Framework supporting the construction of major schemes.
  • Southern Water Strategic Delivery Partner supporting Kier in the delivery of non-infrastructure water and wastewater projects.
  • Wessex Water Capital Delivery Framework which comprises projects from optioneering to detailed design, including environmental investigations.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor\’s degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or another relevant discipline.
  • Chartered member of ICE or CIWEM.
  • Significant experience in leading the estimation of flood flows using FEH and REFH2 and rating reviews.
  • Deep understanding of statistical hydrological analysis.
  • Demonstration of working with hydraulic modellers to calibrate hydraulic models.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS and / or MapInfo and familiarity with Hydrology+.
